a meandering creek made its way into a spring sunset. Two weeks later, the creek became a pond as spring runoff filled the lowlands. This area is prime nesting habitat for numberous bird species such as the great blue heron, Canada geese, osprey, and various ducks. Muskrat, badgers, and porcupines live within the refuge and grizzly bears venture out of the nearby wilderness area onto the refuge.
